Wonders of The First: Origins Pt. 3/5 – The Shattering

Greetings Stoneseekers! There is a saying that “All great changes are preceded by chaos.” In today’s update, we’ll piece together part 3 of the Origins story with The Shattering.

The First is an entity of balance and cyclical nature. Just as seasons change and life finds a way to emerge from the harshest of conditions, Formless Energy began to seep back into the world. It started as mere trickles, manifesting in the most remote and forgotten places. Ancient artifacts awoke from their slumber, and rare, sensitive individuals began to exhibit powers that hinted at the old ways. These were the harbingers of change, the first whispers of a returning era. 

As time passed, these trickles grew into streams, and the streams into rivers. The energy’s return was not as it once was; it was wilder, untamed, and unpredictable. No one knows why, but that is when the stones, protected for millennia by the many sects and orders, began to thrum with energy. Rising high into the air, the Formless Stones began shattering and casting their shards across the Orbital. 

This event did not go unnoticed. The religious group, keepers of the old stories and former guardians of the stones, saw the shift. They knew that the universe was entering a period of flux, a time when the balance between the physical and the arcane would be renegotiated. 

This flux was not uniform across the orbitals. Each experienced the return in unique ways, influenced by their cultures, their environments, and the legacies of the First Forms that had once dominated their lands. The return of weaving also heralded the return of enigmas and horrors, creatures of myth and nightmare that had lain dormant or hidden. Their appearances became more frequent, and their actions more bold, as if they too sensed the changing tide. 

In this era of flux, heroes and villains rise. Some seek to harness the returning magic for their own ends, while others aim to restore balance, fearing that the mistakes of the past might be repeated. The Formweavers, individuals touched by the Formless Energy, find themselves at the heart of this struggle. With an innate connection to the emerging powers, they are drawn to the ancient shards, now pulsing with renewed vigor.
