Name: Romall H. Smith II
Job Title: Lead Narrative Designer
Describe yourself in 1 sentence.
A strategic thinker turned storyteller and worldbuilder on a quest to craft next great science fantasy epic.
What game got you into TCGs/CCGs?
Magic: The Gathering
Would you consider yourself a collector, player, or both?
I would consider myself both a collector and a player. I collect particular things such as certain cards and different languages or cards that have art that really connects with me. As a player, I love coming up with fun concepts that shouldn’t work but do.
Do you have a favorite moment in your CCG career?
I would say most of my favorite moments come from multiplayer over competitive play. And my competitive games. Always a nail biter to the last, but in multiplayer you have things happen that are out of this world and purely accidental. I had an event where I was playing a fairly janky token deck that held on for far too long and started to become a massive problem for the table. When they realized that they need to do something about me, it was too late.
See, my deck was built around the concept of a king sitting on a throne and when he sat on his throne his soldiers power became unfathomable. In terms of the game I had the king. I had hundreds of soldiers and they were all tiny. I played the throne. No one responded to it. I set the king on the throne. No one responded to it and just as I tapped the throne and gave my guys unlimited power the very quiet mousey player from across Mary who really didn’t talk much. All game looked up smiled played a card called a charm dealing one damage to me for each creature that I owned. I lost but that kid had the best play he will ever get and it was fun to see.

What is your favorite WoTF Character Proof?
I love how the style came out on Romalax Starwielder. This character has a lot of potential given his position.
What can people find you doing in your spare time?
In my spare time you can often catch me writing, listening to a book on writing or spending time with my family. Family time can be anything from video games to board games to trip to the park. I have a fairly large family, three brothers, two sisters, 30 nieces and nephews. It’s nice when any of us can get together.
Any tips for newcomers to Wonders of The First?
If I had to give wonders of the first advice, I would say grab a Serialized Booster Box. Find a Character Proof that you connect with and dive into the community. It’s a lot of fun, a lot of great people. In terms of gameplay though I’m going to say you can’t go wrong with boundless opportunities.
